On June 5th, the Tonga National Final of the 19th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students was successfully held at Tailulu College. Ambassador Liu Weimin attended the event and delivered remarks. Mr. Oko, Chief Executive Officer of Tonga’s Ministry of Education and Training, and more than 100 representatives from various sectors attended the event.

Ambassador Liu stated that, with the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations approaching, this year’s “Chinese Bridge” Competition was not only a showcase of Chinese language proficiency, but also a vivid example of exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations. He expressed hope that young students would use language as a bridge and become youth ambassadors promoting dialogue and mutual understanding between the Chinese and Tongan civilizations.

Mr. Oko noted that learning Chinese opens a new window to the world for Tongan youth. He encouraged more young people to study Chinese and become inheritors and promoters of the friendship between Tonga and China.

The event was filled with enthusiasm and excitement. Through Chinese speeches and talent performances, the 15 contestants fully demonstrated their achievements in learning Chinese and their passion for Chinese culture, showcasing the vibrant spirit of Tongan youth actively participating in people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Tonga.
