On June 20, Ambassador Liu Weimin, together with staff members and their families of the Chinese Embassy in Tonga, attended the 2026 Olympic Day event hosted by the Tonga Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC).

The theme of this year’s Olympic Day is "Let’s Move". Accompanied by upbeat Chinese pop music, the Tonga Netball team broke into a group dance, instantly livening up the atmosphere at the warm-up venue. The event drew wide participation from people across Tongan society, athletes, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions stationed in Tonga. Ambassador Liu and the embassy team joined the fun walk and run races, sharing the joy of sports and embracing the Olympic spirit alongside Tongan government and Olympic Committee officials, fellow diplomats, athletes and local residents.

Ms.Vea, Chief Executive Officer of TASANOC, expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its support to community development and invited Ambassador Liu, as a special guest, to present awards to the winners.

The venue was filled with a lively and cheerful atmosphere. All participants forged closer exchanges and deeper friendship through sports, fully demonstrating the unique power of sports to foster unity and connect people’s hearts.
