On June 6, to mark the 55th World Environment Day, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga and the Tonga Netball jointly organized a coastal clean-up along the shoreline near the embassy premises, translating environmental awareness into concrete actions to safeguard our planet.

Bathed in the early morning sunlight spilling over the coastline, the participants assembled ahead of schedule and split into teams to kick off the clean-up work. Moving along the seashore, participants bent down to carefully pick out litter trapped amid reef crevices and beach gaps, with a focus on collecting discarded plastic bottles, food wrappers, foam scraps and other waste. Roughly two hours of diligent work brought about a noticeable improvement to the coastal environment.

Beyond serving as a themed activity for World Environment Day, the event further deepened the friendly ties between the Embassy and the Tonga Netball. All participants noted that environmental protection relies on widespread public engagement. They pledged to promote bilateral collaboration on environmental protection, practise eco-friendly lifestyles going forward, encourage more people around them to boost environmental awareness, and work together to preserve Tonga’s pristine coastal scenery.
