On May 25, 2026, Ambassador Liu Weimin and Hon. Viliami Sisifa, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forests of Tonga, jointly attended the handover ceremony of agricultural supplies provided by China to Tonga and signed the handover certificate.

Ambassador Liu said that agriculture has always been a priority area in practical cooperation between China and Tonga, and this handover underscores China’s steadfast commitment to supporting Tonga’s agricultural development. The China-aided Agricultural Technical Assistance Project in Tonga has been implemented in successive phases. Chinese agricultural experts have earned widespread attention and recognition through sharing smart farming techniques with local people and supporting the development of local communities, serving as a vivid testament to China-Tonga friendly cooperation. China stands ready to continue advancing the implementation of other agricultural projects including Juncao industry, so as to further improve the well-being of the people in Tonga.

Hon. Viliami Sisifa expressed gratitude for China’s generous assistance. He said that China’s long-standing support has not only played a positive role in enhancing Tonga’s food security and sustainable agricultural development, but also brought tangible benefits to local communities and families, which reflects the strong friendship between Tonga and China.
