On the evening of March 27, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga held a gathering for Tongan-China alumni. Ambassador Liu Weimin attended the event and delivered a speech. More than 50 Tongan alumni from all walks of life gathered together to reminisce about their time in China and discuss China-Tonga friendship.
In his address, Ambassador Liu Weimin stated that the Tongan alumni had played an active role in enhancing mutual understanding and friendly exchanges between the Chinese and Tongan peoples, making important contributions to the development of bilateral relations. They had lived up to their mission as envoys of China-Tonga friendship with concrete actions and become an important force promoting people-to-people bonds between the two countries.And expressed the hope that the Tonga-China Alumni Association will serve as a bridge of friendship, build a platform for exchanges, act as a link for cooperation, and become an envoy of civilizations.
The event was filled with a warm and lively atmosphere. Several alumni shared their experiences, observations and personal growth gained from studying and living in China. They performed classic songs including You Are the Song in My Heart, We Are Different and Jasmine Flower, and recited the famous ancient Chinese poem Let’s Drink Up with deep affection. Staff members of the Chinese Embassy also joined in singing the song Friends, fully demonstrating the profound friendship and close bond between the Chinese and Tongan peoples.
