Trilateral Dialogue held at Chinese Embassy in Tonga

On February 4, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga convened a Trilateral Dialogue, bringing together representatives from the Tonga Police, the local Chinese community, and Chinese enterprises and institutions. Tonga Police Commissioner Mr. Jeff Turner and Deputy Commissioner Tevita Vailea, along with other police officers attended.

Ambassador Liu Weimin commended the Tonga Police for their unremitting efforts in safeguarding the safety of Chinese nationals and institutions. He urged the Chinese community to heighten security awareness, take primary responsibility for their own safety, and collaborate closely with the local police.  Ambassador Liu also encouraged the community to actively integrate into Tongan society, participate in charitable initiatives, and contribute to local development, thereby fostering a virtuous cycle where security underpins development and development reinforces security. He reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to close cooperation with the Tonga Police to protect the legitimate rights and interests of all Chinese nationals in Tonga.

On behalf of the Chinese community, Mr. Guo Zhongxing, Vice President of the Tonga Chinese Federation, expressed the community’s willingness to maintain regular communication with the police and jointly enhance security precautions.

Commissioner Turner emphasized the Tonga Police’s commitment to upholding the equal rights of Chinese nationals and other ethnic minorities. He pledged that the Police will continue to upgrade its equipment and enhance its operational capabilities to provide an even safer environment for the Chinese community.
