Seminar on The Global Significance of Chinese Modernization was held in Tonga

On January 30, Renmin University of China and the Tonga National University jointly organized a seminar on The Global Significance of Chinese Modernization in the Chinese Embassy of Tonga.

The seminar was chaired by Ambassador Liu Weimin. Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Latu, Minister for Education Hon. Dr. Otunuku, members of parliament Hon. Mr. Tapueluelu and Hon. Mr. Lanumata, Vice-Chancellor of the Tonga National University Dr. Paunga and other distinguished guests were present.

Dr. Zhang Donggang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Renmin University of China, delivered a keynote speech in which he systematically elaborated on the rich connotations of Chinese modernization and its reference value for the Global South. He emphasized that each country should proceed from its own national conditions and pursue an independent path toward modernization.

Ambassador Liu Weimin noted that His Majesty Tupou VI paid a successful state visit to China last year, during which the two heads of state reached important consensus on strengthening exchanges in governance and development experience. The seminar was held to implement the outcomes of the King’s visit to China, enhancing understanding among various sectors in Tonga of China’s development path and further deepening exchanges in governance between the two countries, so as to further enhance China–Tonga Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Participants actively raised questions and engaged in in-depth exchanges with the delegation on Chinese modernization and China’s development achievements.
