On January 23, Ambassador Liu Weimin attended the handover ceremony of the shuttle buses donated by the Dongguan city. The event was joined by the Minister of Education, Dr. Moa’le Otunuku, senior officials from the Ministry of Education, as well as representatives of secondary school principals and teachers.
Ambassador Liu pointed out that Chinese side has always cared about the development of Tonga’s education. This donation aims to provide safer and more reliable transportation for Tongan teachers and students. It’s another vivid example of friendship and partnership between our two countries. Educational cooperation has consistently been a highlight of bilateral relations between the two countries. Not long ago, during His Majesty King Tupou VI’s visit to China, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on educational cooperation. China is ready to work with Tonga to elevate educational exchanges and cooperation to new heights.

Dr. Moa’le Otunuku expressed his gratitude to Dongguan City and the Chinese government for the longstanding support of Tonga’s educational development. He stated that the bus donation would further improve local transportation conditions for ministry officials, teachers and students and expressed intention to continue deepening cooperation with China to enrich the substance of bilateral relations.
