On January 12, Ambassador Liu Weimin called on Hon.Semisi Sika, Tonga’s newly appointed Minister for Tourism and Minister for Infrastructure, and extended his congratulations to Minister Sika. The two sides held friendly discussions on tourism development and infrastructure cooperation.

Ambassador Liu said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tonga, bilateral ties have maintained sound and steady growth, with mutually beneficial cooperation continuing to deepen. In November of last year, His Majesty King Tupou VI successfully paid a state visit to China, which significantly advanced the comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual respect and common development. China is ready to work with Tonga to actively implement the outcomes of His Majesty’s visit by strengthening exchanges and cooperation in tourism and infrastructure. Ambassador Liu also elaborated on the historical background of the Taiwan question and the one-China principle.
Minister Sika expressed gratitude for China’s long-term support of Tonga, praised China’s development experience as a valuable reference for Tonga’s tourism and infrastructure growth, and expressed his anticipation of further cooperation with China to promote Tonga’s economic and social development. He reaffirmed adherence to the one-China principle, conveyed full confidence in China-Tonga cooperation, and looked forward to visiting China again in the future.
