On May 27, the 1st Pacific Annual Kava Festival 2025 opened in Nuku'alofa, Tonga. As a key component of the 4th Pacific Week of Agriculture and Forestry, this event marked a significant milestone for the South Pacific region in promoting the Kava industry as both a shared heritage and an engine for inclusive economic growth. Ambassador Liu Weimin attended the opening ceremony and engaged in discussions with Hon. Lanumata, Minister for Trade and Economic Development of Tonga, Hon. Piukala, Minister for Public Enterprises of Tonga, and many kava companies representatives across the region.
On May 29, to further support the Kava industry of Tonga, Counselor Ruan Dewen, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Tonga, offered funding assistance to Fakatoumafi Kava Trading Company in Tonga. This funding will support the company's import of Kava drying equipment from China, aiming to boost local processing capacity and foster sustainable industrial growth.
