On February 25th, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga provided emergency funding to Tonga to fight against dengue fever. H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin and Hon. Dr. Ana AKauola, Minster for Health, attended the donation ceremony.

Ambassador Liu said, China attached great importance to and was concerned about the recent dengue fever outbreak in Tonga. Upon learning of Tonga’s urgent need for epidemic prevention supplies such as testing kits and mosquito nets, China promptly lent a helping hand to support the anti-epidemic efforts, which is another testament of solid friendship between our two nations amid the challenges and difficulties. China actively supported Tongan people to fight against Dengue Fever and safeguard public health, was ready to work together with Tonga to enhance cooperation in medical and health field and promote the capacity building of Tonga in epidemic prevention and control.

Hon. Dr. Ana Akau’ola sincerely thanked China for the generous financial support, emphasized the funds would be used for epidemic monitoring, patient treatment, and community prevention. The surging dengue cases have strained local medical resources, China’s timely assistance was able to alleviate the pressure.
