On August 22nd, 2024, Ambassador Liu Weimin, HRH Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala and Prime Minister Hon. Hu’akavameiliku jointly attended the official launching ceremony of the Tonga High School Indoor Stadium, which was attended by more than 500 people from Tonga.

In his speech, Ambassador Liu extended his congratulations on the launching of the Indoor Stadium. He said that the stadium was completed four months ahead of schedule in order to help Tonga host the PIFLM53, which is a vivid manifestation of the deep friendship and strong partnership between the two countries. The Tonga High School Sports Complex Project is the largest China-aid project to Tonga at present. After the completion of the whole project at the end of this year, it will become a milestone in all the China-aid projects to Tonga.

Prime Minister Hon. Hu’akavameiliku spoke highly of China's efforts to push forward the project despite difficulties and was grateful and proud of the timely completion and launching of the stadium. He said that the PIFLM53 is a major regional meeting, and Tonga is deeply grateful for China's strong support to host the meeting. The Indoor stadium will be another testament of the deep friendship between the two countries.
